Blizzard: we love Teen Wolf

We've always straddled the line between being a Viking blog and a general sports blog. Our focus shifts on the stories and the time of year: we write about whatever interests us in the sports world, but it's usually the Vikings that do interest us. When the football season comes, almost every post will be about the NFL and many of them will be about the Vikings. Viking fans can check out our most recent Viking-centric posts: "Tom Powers will be rooting against the Vikings" and "Is 9-7 to 6-10 Brad Childress's Fault?".

After the NBA Finals, we'll be doing team-by-team fantasy football previews entitled "You wouldn't throw up if you have to start this guy week one." We'll look at which players on each team are legitimate fantasy starters for week one.

On to some links.

The Ppress reports on off-season workouts, specifically CB Marcus McCauley's work. The Ppress also looks at the progress of the Vikings' offensive line.

The Starting Five interviews David Aldridge.

We'll keep citing off-season lovefest features on offensive players that are supposedly going to be great in 2007. We love it. From Pete Prisco, the latest to get the love is Packer RB Vernand Morency.

Leave the Man Alone wants Kobe Bryant on the Hawks.

The Vick dogfighting story is odd to follow. From the Daily News (via PFT), Gerald Poindexter now says he was mistaken when he said there was evidence linking Vick to dogfighting. I'm really leaning toward the conclusion that a local rural official might not be the best equipped person to deal with this case. So what do we know now? The evidence is very strong that dog fighting occurred on Vick's property. Though there have been many claims, as of yet there is no clear evidence linking Vick directly to these activities. At this point, all we have is reasonable suspicion (and I would argue suspicion is very reasonable--it is merely the acceptance of the reasonable possibility that Vick was involved). We'll continue to follow it closely.

While we're on pseudo-sports involving the torture of animals, check out this Time article on bullfighting in Mexico.

The Wages of Wins lauds praise on Bill Laimbeer.

Via I Heart KG, NBA.com looks at prospects the Timberwolves are working out. I think Joakim Noah is the best case scenario: I would like to see him playing in the frontcourt with Kevin Garnett. If the Wolves draft a guard, I will never watch them again until Kevin McHale is fired.

The Hater Nation gives some kudos to the basketball coach in Teen Wolf. We love that guy: his complete indifference to his job and the students he coaches carries that movie. His story about the personal struggles of the bench player that he didn't need on the team anyway is classic; is there any fictional coach that gives better advice to confused young men than Bobby Flinstock?

  2. i went to a bull fight once in sevilla. i couldn't sit through the entire show and left about half way through. many of the people i went with left even earlier. basically, the bull is tormented, attacked with with non-lethal blows until it tires, and then killed theatrically. at best, it is cruel and inhumane.

  3. Speaking of offensive weapons who are supposed to be big big in 07, what's your outlook for Adrian Peterson? I'm guessing like 550 & 4 tds, but I don't really know outlook on the expected loads of Taylor vs. Peterson.

  4. R.E., I can't even predict. If AP becomes the feature back, something 1ike 1,300 yards and 10 TDs is possible. But if the Vikes split carries with Taylor and AP, they could each end up with somewhere between 500 and 900 yards and 5 TDs each. It really depends on how Childress intends to use them. I hope AP gets the bulk of the carries, because while Taylor is decent, AP is a gamebreaker. Eventually, I think the bulk of carries will go to AP.

For fantasy purposes, I'm drafting neither Taylor nor AP. Since I'm in a MN league, AP is just going to be too expensive (we do an auction), and I simply don't know which of these guys will get most of the carries.
