a Viking blog, but not just
Sir Francis, a winner, a competitor and one of the most fun QB's to watch ever. I loved the comment at the end about Bud Grant. Fran and Bud, two unique football men and genuine Viking legends.
Winner 0-3 in the SB...
I appreciated Tarkenton the player; I think a reasonable case may be made that he is the best qb of all time. The man did not have superior teammates to play with until he was 2/3 into his career, and he was past his prime physically. When he was still with crappy teams, he was putting up a td/int ratio that was fabulous for the era, which is truly a historic achievement. With all that said, I really, really, really dislike when the term "war" is employed as a metaphor, especially when discussing something that is supposed to be joyful, like sports. I am not a pacifist, but war is the ugliest profanity imaginable. Just leave it alone.
His comments are right on! The media, Peter King and John Madden especially, have made Favre a god. Free agency has changed all this. Players start to believe they are perfect and can do what they want. Someone always seem willing to pay them.Tark may have been 0-3 in the Super Bowl, but I think he got this one right. Hats off to old time football and attitudes.FAvre, stay retired.
I swear I made my post before reading yours. Honest!
I figure it's the typical reaction of a Viking blogger that sees the story but doesn't feel like commenting: slap a link up and say "Fran Tarkenton is awesome."
