Brad Childress must beat the Packers

Brad Childress is 0-5 against the Packers, who have been better but not significantly better than the Vikings during the Childress era. Take away their games against each other: in 2006 they were both 6-8, in 2007 12-4 (playoffs included) and 8-6, and in 2008 3-4 and 4-3. Over two and a half seasons, the Packers have won just three more games than the Vikings against everybody else in the league. But because of their domination of the matchup, they're actually eight games better over that time.

Now the Vikes play in the Metrodome against a division opponent they've lost five straight games to. Both teams are 4-4. If there's any such thing as home field advantage, it should be when playing against a team with a matching record, against a team that had to win a close game at their home field in the previous matchup. If the Vikings win, they will be 5-4 with some hope. If they lose, Brad Childress will be 0-6 against the Packers, 6-10 against the division, and he will have proven that he should not be the coach of the team beyond 2008.

I absolutely agree. This is Childress' second job interview.

A Vikings win gives them hope and shouldn't devestate the Packers, but a Vikings loss will all but officially end the season for me.

you DO know, don't you, that the Vikes have very little chance of winning this game. Too much Childress spells certain doom. Yeah, I'm a vikes fan and I know the packers already have it in the bag. Please zygi please buy us a real coach!

How, exactly, do they have very little chance to win? Green Bay has had trouble stopping the run lately. Minnesota, as you must know, can run the ball.

Frerotte can keep GB's defense a little more honest than ol' T-Jack.

I'm not very optimistic, but I don't see the gloom and doom the way you do.

  4. I don't think this is a make or break game for the season, I see it as a "keep hope or break" game.

If the vikings lose, it's extremely unlikely they can recover and take the division (wild cards are most likely going to the East).

If they win, it doesn't "make" their season. It really only keeps us where we still are at: a highly talented team with a stout defense that is awesome at stopping the run and creating turnovers, and a big strong offensive line with arguably the most talented runner possibly in history of football (time will tell).

If we win, great, we're still in it, but we will have a lot more hope or break games ahead of us beyond the packers.
