At Epic Carnival, I compare Brady Quinn to Philip Rivers and Carson Palmer. FREE BRADY QUINN!
I also want to express how disappointed and horrified I am whenever a good player from the AFC joins a team in the NFC. It seems to be happening a lot in the last few days. Since I've never seen the Vikings even reach the Super Bowl, I don't care how good the AFC teams are; I don't like seeing the Vikings' NFC competition getting stronger.
I don't think the Kitna/Palmer situation is particularly apt to Anderson/Quinn for a couple of reasons.
ReplyDeleteOne-Kitna was 31, and had started for four previous seasons, throwing 69 TD's to 73 INT's. You knew what you had in Kitna, and had a pretty good idea that he had a career year.
Two-Palmer was the #1 Overall Pick. The decision to go to Palmer was a no-brainer. There is a big difference between #1 overalls and other first rounders historically. On the PFR blog on monday (or sometime else next week), I'm going to break down how valuable the right to choose quarterbacks drafted in the first two rounds is, and look at the history of drafts with multiple players selected early, to see how often a player selected at certain draft spots outperformed his peers.
Quinn will likely get his chance, in Cleveland or someone else, although 37% of "other first rounders" never played in more than 2 NFL seasons in their career. Free Jim Druckenmiller! Free Todd Marinovich and Mark McGwire's brother! Free Rich Campbell! Free Chuck Long! Free Art Schlichter! (and I mean that last one literally, he might be in the pen somewhere)
