Beyond Shinders

A new store, "Beyond Shinders," has taken over the location of the old Maplewood Shinders. "Beyond Shinders" sells the same sort of thing the old Shinders sold, including sports cards and memorabilia.

The sports card selection is thin right now. There are a lot of the (higher priced) hobby packs and boxes, which is good. But the single card selection is very weak.

Furthermore, my favorite feature of the old Shinders isn't there. Shinders had boxes of individually cased single cards sitting out for the customer to peruse. Most of the "specials" cards were 29 cents or 49 cents. You could spend as much time as you want looking through cards by hand, and then you could get several good cards that you want for just a few dollars. It was a joyful feature. Hopefully, Beyond Shinders is eventually able to bring back this feature.

The selection is thin now, but it's just starting, so it's encouraging. I don't think anything will ever be like the Golden Age of Shinders, but there's now a place to get a variety of hobby packs and boxes and single sports cards.

Do you think its the original owners making a comeback? New owners hoping to expand their clientel? Some upstart starting off fresh with a already established name? I wonder why they closed down, if they were only going to open up again with a smaller selection.

Boy, I can only hope you two know the background info on all of this. It doesn't sound like Jon does. For kicks google "shinders buzz" and "shinders citypages" to learn more.

Just to clarify, when you google them, you don't need the quotes in the search window. If you do you won't find the stuff.

"Boy, I can only hope you two know the background info on all of this"

why do you feel this way? Was what I said offensive, or hurtful to you or the public in general, were my innocent questions completely off base? Is it out of line for a friend to ask another friend a question?

it wasnt like I was going into a great debate over what this "Beyond Shinders" should be, just curious, so for that reason, thanks but no thanks on the invite to waste my time googling "shinders buzz"

  6. Chill anonymous Jon, anonymous is probably just referring to the scandalous downfall of the guy that purchased Shinders a few years back.

I am sorry for my comment. It was an over-reaction, I regreted posting it less than 5 minutes later. I relized that there was no real malicious intent in anonymous' message, sadly I have been unable to return to this site until today to offer an apology.

Shinders went down in a blaze of glory. Once the owner sold the company to the Crack Head nephew, it all went down hill. After 90 years of business, all it took was 4 years of this guy to burn it to the ground. Dont do drugs... at least the hard ones.

  11. Two locations were bought and re-opened as "Beyond Shinders" by a former employee and his neighbor. They learned the that former owners of Shinders never protected the name, so they were able to leverage the public's knowledge of the Shinders brand while still making themselves stand out as distinct.

Actually, I don't think Joel Shinder really minded that they opened back up. It's what shinders should have been (and was until robert got his hands on it). And yeah, Robert has nothing to do with Beyond Shinders.

If you want to make a point you should learn to write in complete sentences and use punctuation.
